Pisgah Civitan Club honored with RC&D Project of the Year
On Oct. 30, on behalf of the Pisgah Civitan Club, Pam Miles accepted the 2025 Project of the Year Award by Alabama’s Mountains Rivers and Valleys of Resource Conservation and Development Councils. The award presentation was held at Alabama’s Mountains Rivers & Valleys RC&D annual meeting at the Guntersville State Park Lodge. The Pisgah Civitan Club’s project focused on renovations to Pisgah Civitan Park.
Earlier this year, the Pisgah Civitan Club was awarded a RC&D grant in the amount of $23,900 to go towards park improvements. Since Miles became president of the club last year, she worked hard as she coordinated park improvements through grants which funded better signage, upgraded trails, event center renovations, pavilion improvements, amphitheater upgrades, viewing platforms and security measures.
Miles was very exciting about the award, and the club was grateful for it.
“It’s so gratifying to be recognized by such a wonderful organization,” Miles said.
She also said the club had big plans for the future of the park. With the latest grant, the club planned to improve upon the park’s renovations and make the park more accessible to those with disabilities with ADA accessible walkways.
“We’re starting our next project within weeks: an ADA boardwalk leading through the park to the amphitheater where anyone, no matter their ability or disability, can enjoy viewing the magnificent waterfall and gorge vistas,” Miles said. “The amphitheater is also the venue for many weddings and concerts and the boardwalk will enable everyone to attend those special events as well.”
With the park’s improvements, Miles saw marked changes in Pisgah’s community. She said more people used the park and took care to keep it clean.
“The community has a renewed pride in our Civitan Park. I just heard from Pisgah’s new mayor and city council that they wanted to plan a Christmas in the Park celebration and parade. This will be a first-time event between the city and the club,” Miles said.
The 2025 RC&D Project of the Year award was a testament to the Pisgah Civitan Club’s dedication to Pisgah Civitan Park and Pisgah’s community.
“We are thrilled to recognize the Pisgah Civitan Club with the Project of the Year award,” said Renona Seibert, AMRV RC&D Executive Director. “This project truly exemplifies the spirit of RC&D—taking modest resources and creating a significant impact on the community. The physical improvements at Pisgah Gorge not only enhanced the property but also brought the community together, revitalizing the Civitan Club and strengthening its role as a community hub.”
Seibert said, “We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our Senator Livingiston and Representative Mike Kirkland for their ongoing support of RC&D, which makes projects like this possible. Their commitment helps communities transform vision and dedication into lasting, positive change.”
